The High Chaparral

"Fan fiction is the way of the culture repairing the damage done in a system where
contemporary myths are owned by corporations instead of owned by the folk."

Henry Jenkins, Director of Media Studies
Massachusetts Institute of Technology

There is a two-fold problem in writing fan fiction, generally referred to as fanfic.  At one end of the spectrum, are the die-hard fans who resent any sort of manipulation to their favorite characters, and at the other end are the dreamers who run amok with ideas and situations.  Where is the correct balance?  Well, it depends on your definition of fanfic.  There are basic rules to writing fanfic both in terms of pleasing the fans of the show and in staying within copyright laws when interpreting someone else's character.  The interpretation of these rules varies.  Because it is not my area of expertise, all HC fanfic has now migrated to another website where the webmaster, Kate, is experienced in writing, reading, and evaluating fanfic.

Find HC fanfic at:   High Chaparral and Bonanza Fanfiction
If you want to read HC fanfic just stop by the site.  If you are interested in submitting HC stories you have written, contact Kate for further guidelines.

If you are looking for one of the stories that used to appear on the HC site, it should be located now on Kate's site.  If you are the author of one of these stories and want to edit or delete your story, please contact Kate.

The characters mentioned in all fanfic stories remain the sole property of their creators, the various television networks who originally aired the shows, and/or the production companies and others so affiliated with the original copyright of the property.  Fanfic is not intended as an infringement upon these rights and is solely meant for entertainment.  The High Chaparral website no longer posts fanfic on this site and makes no claims for the appropriateness of any fanfic on any other site.  The site mentioned here is one of many on the web whose guidelines are developed, maintained, and enforced by their individual webmasters.
