The High Chaparral
Fanfic

"Fan fiction is the way of the culture repairing the damage done in a system where
contemporary myths are owned by corporations instead of owned by the folk."

Henry Jenkins, Director of Media Studies
Massachusetts Institute of Technology

There is a two-fold problem in writing fan fiction, generally referred to as fanfic.  At one end of the spectrum, are the die-hard fans who resent any sort of manipulation to their favorite characters, and at the other end are the dreamers who run amok with ideas and situations.  Where is the correct balance?  Well, it depends on your definition of fanfic.  There are basic rules to writing fanfic both in terms of pleasing the fans of the show and in staying within copyright laws when interpreting someone else's character.  The interpretation of these rules varies.  Because it is not my area of expertise, all HC fanfic migrated to another website where the webmaster, Kate Pitts, had experience in writing, reading, and evaluating fanfic.

Her site used to be located at www.geocities.com/kathleenpitts, but has since been taken down.  I don't know if it has simply changed to a new web address, if the content has migrated to a different site, or if it has simply disappeared altogether.  If anyone knows, please let me know.  Writers and/or readers of fanfic might also look for HC fanfic on other more general fanfic sites.

Disclaimer:
The characters mentioned in all fanfic stories remain the sole property of their creators, the various television networks who originally aired the shows, and/or the production companies and others so affiliated with the original copyright of the property.  Fanfic is not intended as an infringement upon these rights and is solely meant for entertainment.  The High Chaparral website no longer posts fanfic on this site and makes no claims for the appropriateness of any fanfic on any other site.  The site mentioned here is one of many on the web whose guidelines are developed, maintained, and enforced by their individual webmasters.
